Banana Walnut Smoothie - continuing our healthy eating resolutions

on 09 February 2016

We're continuing our healthy eating resolutions at Hotspotgy in the Month of February and talking about Bananas (and no, not the way Minions say it). My husband has the most annoying banana story. It actually started out as an interesting fact so it isn't technically his story, but he read it a while back and likes to mention it every once in a while. Or any time I eat bananas, which is reasonably often. Sometimes, he just looks at the bunch of bananas and smiles at me and I just know he wants to make some story related comment.

What's the story you ask? Apparently we all eat bananas the wrong way. There was a study conducted that observed apes eating bananas, and they actually peel it from the bottom up. The end. That's literally the story. He told me this a few times and even tried it. Which actually isn't that interesting, I suppose. The sad thing is, I'm not very good at small talk. If I feel awkward, I feel the need to fill the silence with long rambling sentences about whatever pops into my head. And I just know this stupid story has become part of my small talk repertoire.

Anyway. The last few times we've been out and tried to order banana milkshakes, they haven't had any available. Since he loves banana milkshakes, I decided to be nice (self improvement ftw) and make him a banana smoothie for breakfast the other day. I'm a girl who loves to throw in every ingredient possible in a smoothie, so it took serious self control to limit it to bananas as the main ingredient. I did add some walnuts though because bananas and walnuts go together like my husband and random facts.

So does this mean that you need to drink them from the other end too?

This makes 2 very large and think and creamy smoothies, or 3 reasonably sized ones. Its filling enough for breakfast and enough to make you not want to yell at people first thing in the morning. Unless the people suck (Hotspotgy does not encourage verbal abuse. Lol).

Ingredients

2 cups frozen bananas

1/3 cup walnuts

4 - 4 1/2 cups milk (add more if you would like a thinner smoothie)

1 1/2 tsp banana extract (or vanilla essence if you don't have banana)

Instructions

Add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.
