Mango Banana Smoothie

Well, I failed. I am in no better place with my fitness resolutions than I was during the peak of December overeating. I mean, I started out last week right...I got a whole watermelon, cut it into handy chunks, blended up half of it with a bunch of other ingredients and had two days of watermelon-y bliss. Then I forgot the other half on the top shelf in the fridge and by the time I remembered it went bad. Sigh. But a fellow blogger tweeted "begin anywhere" the other day, and although I'm not a quote person, I have to admit, I found it oddly inspirational. So I decided to begin again this week.


I always had this irrational idea that if I made a smoothie the night before, it would somehow go ridiculously bad overnight, and I'd wake up to a fridge full of browned jars and I'd spend the morning not only annoyed that I wasted food, but also starving (and a hungry Indi is an ANGRY Indi). However, my neurotic need to be as organized as possible won out and I decided to try making the smoothies the night before instead of forcing myself out of that lovely,warm, fuzzy, kinda dreamy, (currently over described) semi-consciousness when I first wake up. 

I should point out that Flaxseed is optional, but it's a great source of fiber, manganese, vitamin B1, and omega-3. 

Tip: Buy Bananas in large amounts, peel and cut into chunks and freeze them. They're wonderful little frozen blocks in the morning, thicken your smoothie, and eliminate the need for ice. 

Mango Banana Smoothie

(makes 3.5 cups)


3 Bananas, previously peeled, roughly chopped and frozen (at least overnight)

5 Medium Mangoes, (flesh only)

1 cup Almond Milk (or milk of choice)

1/2 tsp ground Flaxseed (optional)

1/3 tsp Cinnamon



Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth. Enjoy cold!
